About Us
Thomas Reeve

I've been sailing since I was 9 years old, staring off in a Topper then progressing to the Topper Buzz. I race in the club series with my dad in our double hander on a regular basis, trying to push it faster every week. I also love sailing a Laser Radial on the windy days often pushing hard and getting a little bit wet... I became an instructor to share my enjoyment for the sport with others. I am very easy to get on with and I'm looking forward to seeing you out there!

My sailing career started when I turned up to a stage 1 course that was run by Angie Fraser way back in 2010. I was immediately hooked after originally not wanting to go! After working my way through the RYA youth stages I moved on to club racing as well as occasionally venturing further afield to race against other toppers in Scotland. In 2015, I started teaching as an assistant instructor for AST and in October 2016 became a fully-fledged RYA Dingy Instructor. I now sail lasers whenever I can as well as enjoying a whole range of other outdoor pursuits.

I started learning to sail toppers with Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust at after school clubs and holiday courses when I was about eleven years old, gaining my first three RYA stage certificates in my first week of sailing. I loved the sense of adventure and challenge sailing brought and went on to complete lots of the advanced RYA modules and competed in regional events like the Blue Toon Cup and national events such as the Brown Cup Scottish Schools Sailing regatta topper classes before developing my double handed skills in RS Fevas and Laser 2000s. Currently I enjoy racing lasers. My other boating interest is powerboating and I enjoy providing safety cover during events and training sessions and messing about in my family’s 6.3m Humber Ocean Pro rib. I’ve a strong interest in fixing things and try to put my skills to good use undertaking some bosun duties at AST. Recently I’ve taken part in some yachting adventures on the West of Scotland with the Ocean Youth Trust and the National Watersports Centre at Cumbrae. I qualified as an RYA dinghy instructor in 2016 and hope my enthusiasm for sailing will be passed on to lots of others in the future.

My first experience of sailing was a “taster session” taught by Angie Fraser during
Scottish Week when I was only 7 years old. None of my family have sea legs however
it would appear I do! Over the years that followed I started sailing regularly with the team at Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust – starting in an Oppie, moving onto a Topper,
and finally a Laser. I have since completed RYA Dinghy modules 1-4 and all the
additional Advanced modules with AST at Peterhead Sailing Club.

I have had the opportunity to sail as part of a 12 man crew on three, week long voyages on a yacht off the west coast of Scotland and on my last venture we sailed to Ireland. In addition, I have participated in the Puig Vela Classica 2017 Regatta in Barcelona on a 1932 22 metres schooner sail boat which was amazing. Last year I qualified as a RYA Assistant Instructor and I have enjoyed sharing my love of sailing with others. It is an honour to be part of the team that nurtured me and I look forward to sailing for many more years.
